so is referred to as such throughout this site.

About JK Stanford
JK was born in April 1892 and died in September 1971. He was educated at Rugby School and St John’s College Oxford. He served in the Army in both World Wars, had a career in Burma as a District Commissioner and also served for a short period as Chairman of his family business Stanford’s map shop in Covent Garden.
JK wrote numerous books, probably the most famous of which was ‘The Twelfth’ first published in 1944. He was considered a foremost authority on Countryside matters and since his death continues to be quoted to this day.
With a growing interest in the life and work of JK this website has been developed by his family to act as an overview and enable access to further information if required. Copies of his drafts and all his diaries are held by his family and can be accessed for research purposes by arrangement.
